About Will G. Freking
About The Provider
Dr. Will Freking is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. His clinical interests include carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, peripheral nerve surgery, nerve lacerations, fractures of the finger, hand, and wrist, arthritis in the upper extremity, tendon injuries, and trigger finger. Dr. Freking takes pride in offering both surgical and non-surgical solutions, always focused on what aligns best with each patient’s goals and quality of life.
“I believe that pain-free body movement is paramount for both physical and mental health. We interact with the world through our hands, and my goal is to work with you to develop an individual treatment plan to match your goals and lifestyle - whether that be athletic competition, weekend warrior activities, or pain-free day-to-day activities.”
He enjoys the full spectrum of care in hand surgery—from quick, high-impact procedures like carpal tunnel and trigger finger releases to complex reconstructions that unfold over time and require a close partnership with his patients. He is committed to providing personalized, evidence-based care and is trained in the latest techniques, including minimally invasive surgical options.
A Minneapolis native, Dr. Freking earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Minnesota Medical School. He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of Minnesota Medical School’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery and went on to complete a Hand Surgery Fellowship at the prestigious Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center.
Outside the operating room, Dr. Freking unwinds by golfing, fishing, skiing, hiking, traveling, scuba diving, and exploring Colorado with his fiancée and their dog.

Dr Freking is very comfortable speaking in plain English. He can match a patient's tone and line of questioning without taking umbrage or seeming condescending. He offers straight facts, even if they're not the ones you were hoping to hear, and offers possible solutions, including their benefits and limitations. I respect his communication style, and am glad he was recommended to me. It's important to feel respected and actually heard and communicated with openly by your physician.
