About

About The Provider

Troy Madsen, MD is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and the Medical Director of Research for Emergency Medicine at Intermountain Health. Dr. Madsen’s primary clinical and research interests involve the diagnosis and care of acute medical conditions, with a particular interest in the identification and treatment of substance use disorders in the emergency medicine setting. Dr. Madsen’s research focuses on screening and prevention of substance use disorder, naloxone distribution for reversal of opioid overdose, treatment of acute withdrawal, and initiation of long term treatment through the emergency department. His role within emergency medicine have created opportunities to participate in research which spans the full spectrum of emergency medicine investigation, including trauma, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, and education. Dr. Madsen has also practiced wound care and hyperbaric medicine since 2017 and enjoys guiding the process of wound healing in the outpatient setting. Dr. Madsen was born in Burlington, Vermont, during his father’s pediatrics residency, and he was raised in Price, Utah, where his father was the community’s first pediatrician and where he continues to practice pediatrics. Despite living in major metropolitan areas on both U.S. coasts, Dr. Madsen’s heart has always been in rural Utah, which brought him back to the mountains and his family’s home of nearly twenty years in Summit Park. In his free time, Dr. Madsen enjoys any and all activities with his wife, Laura, and his two daughters, Addy and Ellie. When he’s not with his family, he can think of no better activity than heading into the backcountry on a 50-mile self-supported trail run.
