Tamara Sheffield, MD

Tamara Sheffield, MD, MPH is the Medical Director for the Immunization Programs at Intermountain Health, and an Adjunct Instructor in Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of Utah. She acted as Intermountain’s Medical Director for Preventive Care Services for almost thirty years and now focuses solely on immunizations — vaccinology and implementation science.

Dr. Sheffield’s current research is on vaccine effectiveness and the safety of respiratory vaccines as co-principal investigator of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) VISION Network. She is interested in the implementation science around immunization delivery, the development of vaccine registries, computer-aided decision support, and public messaging to combat vaccine hesitancy.

Dr. Sheffield was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and spent her summers on her family’s ranch in Southern Utah. Most of her time outside of work is spent keeping up with her seven children and twenty-two grandchildren. She enjoys gardening, biking, skiing and tennis, and going to the farmer’s market or occasional plays and concerts.
