About Scott A Downs

About The Provider

Scott Downs is a licensed marriage and family therapist in Intermountain Health's Mental Health Integration (MHI) program. He works within the medical setting to provide mental health therapy and consultation alongside your established primary care provider or specialist. MHI treatment is a short-term approach to help manage mental health symptoms that impact quality of life. During treatment, the clinic team communicates with each other to make sure you and your family are getting the care they need. If additional support is needed at the end of treatment with this provider, we will assist with a referral to a long-term mental health provider. Patients needing mental health support who do not have a primary care physician at one of the clinics listed below may contact the Behavioral Health Navigation Line (833-442-2211) for help scheduling with another provider.

Scott Downs has a background in premium residential therapy, outpatient therapy, and private practice. His background includes years as a full-time therapist, Executive Director, and Clinical Director, serving hundreds of youths and their families. With his BS in Psychology and master's in Marriage and Family Therapy, he expanded his clinical reach with pursuits in treating anxiety, depression, attachment injuries, oppositional defiance (OD), and couples therapy.

Scott's unique approach to therapy involves a keen focus on family dynamics and the identification of family structure errors and engagement. This approach provides families and individuals with a more direct and effective route to healing.

Modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused/Strength-Based models, and Family Systems Theories.

Scott enjoys mountain biking, golfing, and fly fishing with his wife and three children.
