Sara McAllaster, MD

Sara McAllaster, MD, is an obstetrician and gynecologist at Intermountain Health's Avenues Women's Clinic in Salt Lake City, Utah. She enjoys caring for patients through every phase of life—from finding a family planning or contraceptive method that fits their goals, preferences, and lifestyle, to guiding them through menopause and beyond. She offers both medical and surgical management for a wide range of conditions and works closely with each patient to find the option that's right for them. Dr. McAllaster performs hysterectomies using laparoscopic and vaginal approaches, and finds it rewarding to offer minimally invasive treatment for conditions such as fibroids that can allow for a quicker recovery. She also performs office-based procedures and believes patients should have options for pain control so they can take an active role in decisions about their care.

Her philosophy of care is to meet patients where they are. Every patient brings a unique experience, perspective, and set of goals to their care. She believes her role as a provider is to listen to each patient as an individual, understand what matters most to them, and partner with them to determine the best path forward. Dr. McAllaster strives to provide evidence-based recommendations while tailoring each treatment plan to the patient's individual needs, preferences, and goals.

Her clinical interests include abnormal menstrual bleeding, uterine and ovarian masses, preventive care, family planning and birth control, menopause, urinary incontinence, and maternity care. Above all, Dr. McAllaster wants her patients to know she is an advocate for them and their health, and that they are a team.

Originally from Oahu, Hawaii, Dr. McAllaster enjoys mountain biking, hiking, camping, snowboarding, listening to audiobooks and reading, and hosting gatherings with loved ones.
