About Misty Schmidt

About The Provider

Misty Schmidt, PhD, LMFT, is a licensed marriage and family therapist serving individuals, couples, and families in Grand Junction, Colorado. She specializes in working with clients who are Autistic, ADHD, and otherwise neurodivergent, with a particular focus on how neurodivergence is experienced and understood within healthcare and relational systems.

Dr. Schmidt is passionate about creating a therapeutic space where clients feel seen, understood, and supported. She believes that real healing begins the moment a collaborative, trusting relationship is formed. Many of her favorite and most meaningful cases involve working with Autistic and ADHD clients—populations that are often misunderstood across medical, educational, and social settings. She understands the unique communication styles, cultural experiences, and systemic challenges that neurodivergent individuals frequently navigate, and she strives to be both an advocate and an informed provider who truly “gets it.”

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Schmidt actively engages in advocacy, research, and public speaking on neurodivergence, with particular emphasis on Autism. She is committed to increasing awareness, improving provider education, and promoting affirming care practices.

Outside of the office, Dr. Schmidt enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors—especially anything involving water and nature.
