About Matthew R. Mackay

About The Provider

Dr. Matthew Mackay is a psychologist in Intermountain Health's Mental Health Integration (MHI) program. He works within the medical setting to provide mental health therapy and consultation alongside your established primary care provider or specialist. MHI treatment is a short-term approach to help manage mental health symptoms that impact quality of life. During treatment, the clinic team communicates with each other to make sure you and your family are getting the care they need. If additional support is needed at the end of treatment with this provider, we will assist with a referral to a long-term mental health provider. Patients needing mental health support who do not have a primary care physician at one of the clinics listed below may contact the Behavioral Health Navigation Line (833-442-2211) for help scheduling with another provider.

Dr. Mackay is a distinguished clinical psychologist specializing in the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents, serving patients from ages 5 to 25. Dr. Mackay holds a Doctor of Psychology degree from the California School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles, which he earned in 2007. After several years of practice in Southern California, he and his family relocated to St. George, Utah, in 2014, where he has continued to make significant contributions to community health.

Dr. Mackay's approach to therapy is grounded in psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral techniques, though he is adept at adjusting his methods to meet the specific needs of each patient. His philosophy of care—"Your focus determines your reality"—highlights his belief in the transformative power of positive thinking and focused action in overcoming mental health challenges.

Passionate about helping young individuals understand their inherent worth, Dr. Mackay is committed to aiding them in unlocking their potential and viewing life’s challenges as opportunities for growth. He emphasizes the importance of a therapeutic relationship built on connection, using shared interests to engage with his patients effectively. This approach ensures that therapy is not only beneficial but also a collaborative, integrated process involving the patient, their family, and healthcare providers.

In addition to his professional life, Dr. Mackay enjoys spending quality time with his family, indulging in his interests as an avid Star Wars and Marvel fan, and pursuing outdoor activities like rockhounding. His life outside the clinic enriches his empathetic approach, making him a relatable and trusted figure for both patients and their families
