Maricel was kind and thorough with her assessment of my cancer risk. I tested positive for a genetic mutation, and she walked me through preventative and screening measures in a way that left me feeling empowered rather than scared. She also outlined clear steps for my family to take to make sure they receive the care they need. She saved not only my life but my family members’, too!

She made me feel so much better being able to understand more about what care will be like from now on. She definitely helped me feel more prepared and a little less overwhelmed about everything.

Give more information at the start of the appointment about what you can and cannot answer. It would have been nice to be asked during the appointment if I had questions as we went along. I felt like I couldn't ask all of my questions at the end. Our call got cut off and when we were able to reconnect, I felt rushed and that she was not able or willing to answer my questions and concerns. I asked a couple of things and she said she could not answer those for me. I stopped asking at that point and will ask my primary care physician. It felt like the compassion would come if I have a certain mutation vs what we know I already have. If it is worse then I will be taken more seriously. It doesn't matter what or how severe, it is happening to me and I am concerned. More understanding and guidance on the actual level of severity is what was needed.
