About
About The Provider
Mariam Ishaque, MD, PhD, is a neurosurgeon dedicated to providing compassionate, highly individualized care for patients with conditions affecting the brain, spine, and nervous system. She combines advanced surgical techniques and technology with a thoughtful, patient-centered approach, taking the time to understand each patient’s symptoms, goals, and priorities before developing a treatment plan.
Dr. Ishaque has a particular clinical interest in neuro-oncology and treating brain and spinal tumors, including gliomas, benign tumors, and metastatic disease. Her expertise includes advanced techniques such as intraoperative mapping and image-guided surgery. Her practice also encompasses general, minimally invasive, and robotic-assisted spine surgery for degenerative conditions, trauma, and tumors, as well as surgical treatment of select acute and chronic pain conditions, including trigeminal neuralgia. She has specialized training in functional neurosurgery and movement disorders, with plans to expand her practice to include deep brain stimulation (DBS) and MR-guided focused ultrasound. Her training also includes advanced stereotactic radiosurgery techniques, including Gamma Knife and CyberKnife.
Dr. Ishaque views neurosurgical care as a partnership built on trust, communication, and shared decision-making. When surgery is needed, she takes pride in developing meticulous surgical strategies that balance precision, innovation, safety, and each patient’s individual goals. She is committed to guiding patients and their families through each stage of their journey with the same care, attention, and commitment she would want for a member of her own family.
Dr. Ishaque completed a combined MD/PhD program at the University of Texas Health Science Center, earning a PhD focused on advanced MRI techniques for structural and functional brain mapping. She then completed her neurosurgical residency at the University of Virginia, with an enfolded fellowship in stereotactic radiosurgery. She then completed an additional fellowship in neuro-oncology at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle, Washington.
Dr. Ishaque was born in Pakistan and raised in Dallas, TX. She remains a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan—a testament to her patience, resilience, and unwavering optimism. Outside of medicine, Dr. Ishaque enjoys staying active through tennis, Pilates, and beginner-level skiing. She has a passion for travel and global neurosurgery, having gained international clinical experience in the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and New Zealand during her training. She also appreciates learning languages and is conversational in Urdu, Hindi, Spanish, Swedish, and French. Dr. Ishaque looks forward to exploring all that Colorado has to offer with her fiancé and their dog, while building lasting relationships with the patients and communities she serves.
