Margaret Upchurch, MD

Margaret "Meggie" Upchurch, MD, is a neurologist at Intermountain Health's Utah Valley Clinic - Neurology in Provo, Utah. She particularly enjoys caring for patients with multiple sclerosis and other neuroimmunologic conditions—an area where advances in immunotherapy have dramatically improved patients' long-term outcomes and quality of life. She finds it especially rewarding to help patients navigate a diagnosis that can feel overwhelming at first, partnering with them over time to maintain function, independence, and well-being.

Dr. Upchurch values building strong, lasting relationships with her patients and is passionate about educating and empowering them to understand their condition and take part in shared decision-making. She also has a particular interest in family planning and women's health in the setting of neurologic disease, especially multiple sclerosis, where misconceptions are common. She enjoys helping patients navigate these decisions safely and confidently with evidence-based guidance.

As a provider, Dr. Upchurch strives to provide thoughtful, evidence-based care while building meaningful relationships with her patients. Her goal is to empower each person with the knowledge and support they need to navigate their condition with confidence and maintain the highest possible quality of life.

Her clinical interests include multiple sclerosis and neuroimmunology/autoimmune neurology (such as NMOSD, MOGAD, autoimmune encephalitis, and neurosarcoidosis), as well as women's health and family planning in neurology. Above all, she wants her patients to feel heard, supported, and informed. She takes time to listen carefully and works closely with each patient to develop a plan that fits their goals and lifestyle. Whether managing a chronic neurologic condition or a new concern, she is committed to providing clear guidance and being a reliable partner in her patients' care.

Outside of Work Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Upchurch primarily grew up in Austin, Texas. Outside of work, she enjoys staying active through running, hiking, and yoga, along with gardening, listening to music, and reading. She and her husband love spending time outdoors with their Great Pyrenees, Sam, and are excited to embrace Utah's beautiful outdoors—including getting more into skiing.
