Bio:
Laurie M. Baumann, MD MHS is a pediatric surgeon at Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT.  She has special clinical interest in chest wall deformities, minimally invasive surgery, neonatal procedures, and global surgery.  She treats a wide range of pediatric surgical conditions, including procedures for:
•    Appendicitis
•    Hernias
•    Gallbladder disease
•    Nutritional Access
•    Vascular Access
•    Pectus deformities
•    Congenital anomalies
•    Childhood cancer
Dr. Baumann is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Utah School of Medicine.  She received her BA from Johns Hopkins University where she also received her Master of Health Sciences from the Bloomberg School of Public Health.  She pursued her MD at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, where she completed a certificate program in leadership in medicine for

underserved populations.  After medical school, she completed her General Surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati, followed by fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.
Dr. Baumann has a focused academic interest  in global surgery and international health, which began while she was a public health student. Prior to medical school, she spent two years working in underserved communities in Lima, Peru as an NIH scholar.  During residency, she completed a two-year research fellowship at Lurie Children's Hospital leading health services and outcomes research projects, as well as contributing to the working groups of the Global Alliance for Surgical, Obstetric, Trauma, and Anesthesia care. 
 Additionally, she served as a principal educator for the initial SAGES Global Laparoscopic Advancement Program across various training hospitals in Mexico.  She is fluent in Spanish and aims to establish global partnerships within Latin America to improve education, surgical outcomes, and ultimately the care for children in underserved communities.
When not at work, Dr. Baumann is an avid runner, soccer player, and hiker.  She enjoys spending time outside with her dog and traveling with her family.
