About Karl N. Weenig

About The Provider

Karl Weenig is a sports medicine physician at Intermountain Health's Utah Valley Sports Medicine Clinic in Provo, Utah and Spanish Fork Clinic - Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Spanish Fork, Utah. With more than 20 years of experience caring for athletes and active individuals of all ages. He specializes in non-operative sports medicine, helping patients recover from injuries, restore function, and return to the activities they enjoy. His clinical interests include musculoskeletal injuries, non-operative fracture care, osteoporosis, joint pain, tendinopathies, and the use of ultrasound-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

A leader in sports medicine advocacy, Dr. Weenig has served for nearly two decades as chair of the Utah High School Activities Association Sports Medicine Advisory Committee, collaborating with athletic trainers, school administrators, and legislators to promote best practices for high school athlete safety. He has also served on the National Federation of State High School Associations Sports Medicine Advisory Committee.

Dr. Weenig performs a wide range of procedures, including ultrasound-guided injections, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, hyaluronic acid injections, fracture reduction and casting, joint dislocation reduction, compartment syndrome testing, and treatment of ingrown toenails. He is particularly interested in advancing the use of innovative therapies that improve recovery and function.

His philosophy of care is inspired by Sir William Osler's famous words: “Listen to the patient. He is telling you the diagnosis.” Dr. Weenig believes active listening is essential to understanding each patient's experience and developing an effective treatment plan. He strives to approach every encounter with empathy, placing himself in his patients' shoes as he helps them navigate injury, recovery, and long-term wellness.

One of the most rewarding aspects of his practice is seeing patients overcome significant challenges and regain function. He is especially inspired by individuals who demonstrate resilience in the face of serious musculoskeletal conditions and those who commit themselves to rehabilitation and recovery.

Originally from a military family that eventually settled in Utah County, Dr. Weenig has called the area home for more than 50 years. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Polly, and their children while participating in outdoor recreation, high-adventure activities, humanitarian service, and family experiences.
