Justin H. McCarthy, MD

Justin McCarthy, MD, AAHIVS, is a family medicine physician at St. Mary’s Family Medicine Residency in Grand Junction. He provides comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of health needs. His clinical interests include HIV and STI treatment and prevention, Hepatitis C treatment, chronic disease management, and hospital medicine.

Dr. McCarthy is particularly drawn to caring for patients whose needs require a thoughtful, multidisciplinary approach. He values the opportunity to work at the intersection of social, emotional, and physical health, where collaboration and continuity of care can make a lasting difference. He finds some of the most rewarding aspects of family medicine in supporting individuals facing complex medical, psychiatric, and social challenges. While no single provider can address every need, he believes that working alongside a dedicated healthcare team creates meaningful opportunities for patients to achieve better health, stability, and well-being.

His philosophy of care is rooted in the belief that healthcare is most effective when it empowers people to take an active role in their health. Dr. McCarthy partners closely with patients, encouraging shared decision-making and fostering trusting relationships grounded in openness, respect, and understanding. He believes that when patients feel heard and supported, it lays the foundation for meaningful progress and positive change.

Outside of medicine, Dr. McCarthy enjoys spending time with his wife, a local therapist and yoga instructor, and their two elementary-aged children. He is an active soccer coach and is passionate about team and endurance sports. When he is not caring for patients, he is often trail running, mountain biking, skiing, or spending time with friends and family throughout the Grand Junction community.
