About The Provider

John Vitkus, PhD, is a clinical psychologist at Intermountain Health's Avenues Specialty Clinic in Salt Lake City, Utah. He joined Intermountain Health after 21 years on staff at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He enjoys the breadth of a general psychology practice, working with adults on a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and PTSD and trauma recovery. He is experienced in EMDR and hypnotherapy, and has a particular interest in interpersonal processes, personality, and spirituality.

Originally from the Chicago area, Dr. Vitkus received his training at Northwestern University, Stanford University, and Case Western Reserve University. He began his career as a professor of psychology at Barnard College in New York City before re-specializing in clinical psychology.

Dr. Vitkus came to Salt Lake City when his wife, Lisa, was hired at Primary Children's Hospital, where she serves as Chief Operating Officer for Service Lines. They have two adult children — a daughter who works as a paleontologist at the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology in Drumheller, Alberta, and a son who is a flight scheduler for NetJets in Columbus, Ohio.
