About John G. Perkins

About The Provider

Dr. John Perkins is a psychologist in Intermountain Health's Mental Health Integration (MHI) program. He works within the medical setting to provide mental health therapy and consultation alongside your established primary care provider or specialist. MHI treatment is a short-term approach to help manage mental health symptoms that impact quality of life. During treatment, the clinic team communicates with each other to make sure you and your family are getting the care they need. If additional support is needed at the end of treatment with this provider, we will assist with a referral to a long-term mental health provider. Patients needing mental health support who do not have a primary care physician at one of the clinics listed below may contact the Behavioral Health Navigation Line (833-442-2211) for help scheduling with another provider.

Dr. Perkins works with patients across the lifespan and focuses on a range of behavioral health areas, including sleep problems, chronic pain treatment, diabetes management, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, neurocognitive concerns such as dementia and concentration issues, smoking cessation and other substance use, trauma and PTSD, chronic stress, and pediatric behavioral problems.

Though integrated in his approach to treatment, Dr. Perkins often utilizes an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) perspective to support patients as they reengage with life and pursue values-oriented, committed action. Other utilized approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBT for Insomnia, CBT for Chronic Pain, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).

Dr. Perkins enjoys backcountry skiing (with his family and dog Taiga), reading novels, mountain biking, cooking shared meals, trail running, meditating in saunas, and swimming in alpine lakes.
