Harris L. Carmichael, MD

Harris Carmichael, MD is a hospitalist at Intermountain Health's LDS Hospital, Alta View Hospital, and Intermountain Medical Center, As a hospitalist, he cares only for patients who are staying in the hospital. He spends most of his clinical time at Intermountain Medical Center, where he leads teaching teams of medical students and residents as they care for patients.

Dr. Carmichael is also a researcher. His work looks at how patients are doing across the country and develops new ways to measure the quality of care patients receive. He is an assistant professor of hospital medicine at Intermountain Health, an adjunct assistant professor of medicine at the University of Utah, and a research fellow with the Intermountain Healthcare Delivery Institute.

Dr. Carmichael completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Utah, where he also served as chief resident. He then earned a master's degree in health policy from Stanford University. He also completed a joint Intermountain Health and Stanford Medicine fellowship in population health and care delivery science. In 2023, he was elected a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).
