About The Provider
Derek Larson is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) at Intermountain Health's Cottonwood Clinic - Psychiatry and Counseling in Murray, Utah. He works with people facing a wide range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety and anxiety-related conditions such as OCD, social phobia, and agoraphobia, as well as PTSD, substance use disorders, personality disorders, family concerns, and other emotional challenges.
He generally works with older adolescents and adults, using a cognitive behavioral approach while adapting his care to each individual client's needs. His areas of interest and expertise include substance use and dependence disorders, depressive and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders, relationship issues, and abuse and emotional concerns.
Derek has been with Intermountain Health since 2009, seeing clients on an outpatient basis. He previously spent 12 years at Davis Behavioral Health working with individuals with substance use disorders, including nine years as director of the Adult Men's Residential and Day Treatment substance abuse program. He also spent four years with Adult Probation and Parole, helping clients transition from jail and prison back into the community and address criminogenic thinking and behaviors. Derek currently works with the Department of Defense and the U.S. Air Force as well, supporting enlisted airmen and soldiers with mental health concerns.
He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Brigham Young University and his Master of Social Work from the University of Utah.
