About Darryl A. Auston
About The Provider
A San Diego native, Dr. Auston attended college at the University of California, San Diego where he developed an interest in medicine and research. This interest pushed him toward the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore, Maryland where he earned both his M.D. and Ph.D. in Physiology and Neuroscience. While a medical student at the University of Maryland, he rotated through the Shock Trauma Center and discovered the orthopedic trauma service. The experiences he had on that service put him on the path to his current career. He then completed his orthopedic residency at the Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, and his orthopedic trauma fellowship at the Florida Orthopedic Institute in Tampa, Florida. He has practiced in Jacksonville, Florida and Denver, Colorado where he has built two successful level 2 orthopedic trauma programs. Dr. Auston has a passion for teaching. He routinely has medical students rotating through his practice and travels the country teaching orthopedic trauma principles to residents, fellows, and other practicing surgeons. Dr. Auston treats patients with complex injuries.
“Many of my patients have suffered severe trauma and require emergent surgery. These patients cannot choose their surgeon and often it is left to the families to trust in my care. I honor that trust by providing patients the highest quality care in their time of need.”
When not working, Dr. Auston enjoys motorsports and travel.
