About

About The Provider

Dr. Brian Locke is a pulmonary researcher and provider at Intermountain Health's Schmidt Chest Clinic at Intermountain Medical in Murray. He supports patients in the Salt Lake Valley, providing care to patients with chronic respiratory failure, advanced COPD, obesity hypoventilation syndrome, respiratory symptoms with neuromuscular disease, and patients who need home ventilator support.

Dr. Locke is committed to empowering patients to lead fulfilling, independent lives by employing cutting-edge, evidence-based strategies tailored to their unique needs. His approach focuses on proactively managing symptoms to improve quality of life, helping each patient achieve greater autonomy and long-term well-being.

Dr. Locke's research focuses on improving the recognition and longitudinal management of hypercapnic respiratory failure, particularly the transition from hospitalization to diagnostic evaluation and treatment after discharge. He uses electronic health record, administrative, and linked health-system data to develop computable phenotypes, characterize care and outcomes, and identify opportunities for intervention. Dr. Locke also designs pragmatic trials and embedded evaluations to test strategies that improve diagnostic completion, follow-up, and patient-centered care. A complementary area of his work examines how artificial intelligence and clinical prediction can support clinical decision-making while preserving rigorous evaluation, interpretability, and clinician oversight.

Dr. Locke is from Bozeman, Montana. Outside of work, he enjoys backcountry skiing, alpine climbing, trail running, and being a new dad.
