Alta Dunning, RD

Alta Dunning, MBA, RDN, is a registered dietitian nutritionist with a rich background in inpatient care, skilled nursing, outpatient oncology, renal nutrition, and long‑term care. Her diverse clinical experience allows her to support patients with complex medical needs while tailoring nutrition therapy to each individual’s circumstances.

She specializes in renal and oncology nutrition as well as nutrition support, helping patients understand how nutrition can influence their quality of life when managing underlying conditions. Alta takes time to review each patient’s health history so she can recommend the most effective and realistic nutrition strategies for their goals.

Alta believes strongly in proactive rather than reactive care. She recognizes that her own goals may not always match a patient’s, and she is committed to meeting people where they are by respecting their priorities, readiness, and personal journey. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition with a Dietetics Option from Montana State University and completed the Montana Dietetic Internship in 2012. She later went on to earn a Master of Business Administration with a focus in Healthcare Administration.

Outside of her professional life, Alta enjoys being outdoors, helping with her family’s ranches, hiking, and camping. She and her husband are both native Montanans, and together they are raising three children.
