Colorectal Surgeon

Dr. Ute Gawlick is a board-certified colorectal surgeon with more than a decade of experience providing comprehensive surgical care at Intermountain Health.  She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus, with expertise in minimally invasive and robotic-assisted colorectal surgery.

Dr. Gawlick earned both her Doctor of Medicine and PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Utah, followed by a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University/Providence in Portland. She is board certified in both General Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Since joining Intermountain Health in 2012, Dr. Gawlick has held multiple leadership roles, including Medical Director of the Colorectal Surgery Division and Medical Director of Colorectal Surgery at Intermountain Medical Center.  She is actively involved in advancing surgical quality and safety and has served as an NSQIP Champion, Surgical Site Infection Committee member, and a current member of the Intermountain Health Robotics Committee.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Gawlick has a strong background in clinical research, innovation, and education.  She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presentations focused on colorectal disease, surgical outcomes, and cancer research, and she is a named inventor on multiple medical technology patents.  Earlier in her career, she also contributed to medical education as a lecturer and teaching assistant.
