Dr. Gates earned his medical degree from Duke University – College of Medicine, completed is residency at Duke University Hospital, and is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

Dr. Gates was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan but was raised in Logan, Utah. Outside the clinic he enjoys skiing, reading, learning languages, watching Great Courses lectures, cooking, playing the cello, exercising, and participating in church. He met his wife while at school, where she was a librarian at Duke University. His two daughters are very accomplished both in their education and community service.
